Located in the peri-urban liminal zone between town and country, this Community Multi-Purpose Hall functions as a resilient Social Condenser. It is designed to accommodate a diverse program—from spiritual gatherings to disaster relief—by synthesizing Vernacular Tectonics with a deep Ontological Narrative.
Architecture of the Self The design process is driven by an existential inquiry into the “True Self,” translated into three distinct spatial phases: Reflection (The Exterior),Shadow (The Interior) & The Void (The Essence).
The project employs a radical Double-Skin Façade strategy that separates environmental performance from phenomenological experience. The exterior is clad in locally sourced corrugated iron, concrete, and wood. It features a woven motif mimicking coconut leaf baskets, grounding the building in Genius Loci (spirit of place) and providing a rugged shield against the elements.
To mitigate the risks of unpredictable weather and flooding, the program uses Vertical Stratification. This layering creates a Thermal Break between the two skins, passively regulating internal temperatures. A dedicated Transition Space allows occupants to exist between the “Reflective” hard shell and the “Shadow” soft core, emphasizing the duality of the human experience.
